What is a Travel Nurse?
There are three types of nurse contracting under this general catagory:
1. Per Diem Nurse
2. Travel Nurse
3. Petitioned Nurse
1. Per Diem Nurse
A Per Diem nurse is one who has U.S. residency and contracts within
his/her local community. This offers great flexibility in schedule
and hours worked. Sometimes nurses work Per Diem to supplement their regular nursing job.
2. Travel Nurse
A travel Nurse is one with U.S. residency who is willing to travel outside
of a 70 mile radius of their primary residence. These contracts are typically
13 weeks or longer and there are certain "perks" for those willing to travel.
3. Petitioned Nurse
A Petitioned Nurse is a foreign nurse who would like to gain U.S. citizenship
and employment. Two years of professional experience are required. The
benefits for this type of travel nurse job can be substantial.
With any of the three methods of travel nurse jobs outlined above, there is
always the potential opportunity for direct hire with the participating hospital.
